(Yet Another) New Game!
I have no idea how the hell I did it, but yeah I released another game, this time for the Historically Accurate game jam.
This is faaaaar different from my usual fare, and it might be a surprise to fans of my previous jank but I'm also an avid player of strategy games! I always had dreams of making either a mod for Total War or Crusader Kings, or making a game that riffs off those series. There's something I love about commanding legions to annihilate my enemies, and I've been unable to come anywhere close to replicating that feeling. This game does not come all that close either, but its a helluva lot further than I've ever reached before.
This game is meant to be a mix of the original Shogun Total War, and the Barbarian Invasion expansion for Rome Total War, which actually had its own version of Badon Hill!
The premise of the game is that you are commanding the British forces led by King Arthur at the Battle of Badon Hill, or "Mons Badonicus". Your forces are a mish-mash of troops using whatever old Roman arms and armor they can scrape together, fighting against invading Saxons. The unit descriptions give background and some of my reasoning for why each unit is the way it is, though due to the time constriction and some external factors I didn't have time to really flesh these out as much as I would have liked.
But I'm still mostly happy with what I managed to get done (I'm still kinda shocked I did get it done), the only things I think are really missing is a tutorial and some opening cutscene setting up the scenario. Since I can't update the game during the voting period I plan to just make a Youtube video showing the mechanics for a tutorial, and I might make a cutscene after the jam ends, who knows.
Oh, and don't think I forgot about Stalewater, I'm still writing up the postmortem and was working on the next big update until this jam started, I'll be getting back to it shortly.
